SkyTip Platform

A new 3 tonne class for suspended bulk material handling.

SKYTIP is a patented suspended tipping machine primary designed to maximise payload when using 30 Tonne Ship Cranes. SKYTIP also adapts to harbour cranes, mobile cranes, reach stackers and other lifting systems, and can be engineered to suit a wide range of working load limits and container sizes.

Rather than being a single-purpose machine, SKYTIP is an evolving engineering platform. Different models are being developed to suit a wide range of industries, commodities, crane capacities, container sizes and lid configurations.

The first commercial model, developed specifically for the scrap steel industry, has been successfully designed, manufactured, tested and operated in real-world conditions.

ISO Open-Top Containers & Standard Container Modifications

One of the key advantages of the SkyTip platform is its ability to utilise standard ISO shipping containers.

The SkyTip support frame has been engineered to provide structural support to the container sidewalls during the tipping cycle, allowing the use of standard ISO container platforms while maintaining structural integrity under load.

The SkyTip platform is designed to accommodate the full range of ISO open-top containers, from half-height scrap containers through to full-height and high-cube configurations.

Where suitable open-top containers are not available, standard General Purpose (GP) ISO containers can also be converted for SkyTip applications. A typical conversion involves removing the roof structure, modifying the upper side rails, and installing new reinforced top rails to create an open-top configuration suitable for bulk material handling.

The widespread availability of GP ISO containers provides customers with a practical and cost-effective pathway into bulk handling without the need to purchase purpose-built containers.

Bell Industrial can assist with container assessment, modification design and engineering solutions to suit individual commodities and operating requirements.

Typical Container Options

High-Tensile Scrap Steel Containers

Bell Industrial has designed a range of lightweight, high-strength scrap steel containers specifically for the SkyTip platform.

Manufactured using Hardox® 450 and Hardox® 500 Tuf wear-resistant steels, these containers are engineered to maximise payload while providing exceptional durability in demanding scrap handling applications.

The use of high-strength wear plate enables lighter container construction without compromising structural integrity, resulting in increased payload capacity and longer service life.
